Introduction
Until recently DLB has been difficult to diagnose, and is often misdiagnosed as Alzheimer's disease as many symptoms overlap.[2]
DaTSCAN may assist in distinguishing probable DLB from Alzheimer's disease.[3]

Accurate and early diagnosis of probable DLB is essential for optimal management:[4]
- severe neuroleptic sensitivity may be avoided
- a trial of cholinesterase treatment can be instigated
- Parkinsonian symptoms can be managed appropriately, weighing up the balance of psychiatric and motor symptoms, and falls risk
