Case study 2

Examination findings

  • The patient exhibited symmetrical axial and limb rigidity.
  • He had a stooped posture and neck flexion.
  • He had both a rest and postural tremor of 4 Hz which was worse on the right than the left side.
  • Tremor was re-emergent (ie. it settled temporarily between rest and action) and dependent (ie. it worsened in the hands when walking).
  • Facial expression and voice modulation were reduced.
  • Did the patient have Parkinson’s disease?
