The benefits of correct diagnosis - management responses
Datscan images dopamine transporters, the loss of which parallels dopaminergic nigrostriatal integrity as may be observed at post-mortem.[1]
This can assist in the diagnostic process,[1,2] thereby helping to guide subsequent
patient management.
In a study of 118 patients with clinically uncertain Parkinsonian syndromes, DaTSCAN was used to determine its potential role in diagnosis and clinical management. Following investigation with DaTSCAN changes were made in the clinical management of 72% of patients.[2]
